Overview

Ovid Therapeutics is seeking a PhD scientist with experience in cellular neuroscience to join our Research and Early Development (RED) team in Cambridge, MA. The scientist will play a key role in developing preclinical disease models for the assessment of therapeutic modalities, including small molecule and gene therapies. Within this function, the individual will support all aspects of drug development i.e., from lead identification through drug product validation. As part of a collaborative team, this individual will be a pivotal player in developing our in-house nonclinical research capabilities and help moving projects to IND stage and will report to an Associate Director of Research. The ideal candidate has a background in neuroscience or related field and will be responsible for independently designing, executing research for in vitro and in vivo nonclinical pharmacology, safety/toxicology studies in support of Ovid’s pipeline. The scientist will conduct research reliably and responsibly, analyze and interpret data and present results to various cross-functional project teams. Responsibilities

  • Strong hands-on experience performing standard cell and molecular biology techniques e.g., gel electrophoresis, western blotting, Immunostaining, qPCR, ELISA, Cellular imaging etc.
  • Hands-on experience on tissue culture e.g., cell lines, iPSCs and/or primary neuronal cultures.
  • Hands-on experience on tissue handling e.g., tissue harvest, protein extraction, assays etc.
  • In vivo experience is highly desired e.g., Perfusion, Tissue sectioning, Immunostaining etc.
  • Analyze and document experimental data for written or oral presentations.
  • Support laboratory activities by helping, overseeing junior people, and general lab functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and have all hands-on deck mind set.
  • Build strong collaboration within R&D team and external CRO/collaborators to meet project, departmental, and company goals.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Biochemistry Cell & Molecular biology, or related discipline.
  • (0-3) years of post-PhD research and 7+ yrs. of laboratory research experience
  • 2+ Industry experience highly desired but can be waived for exceptional candidates.
  • Demonstrated ability of research productivity through peer reviewed publication.
  • Deep expertise in cell and molecular techniques
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong commitment to quality and accountability and eager to learn and ability to adapt.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills and strong team player.
  • Versed with different software related to research e.g., Prism, Image J, Imaging software etc.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

 

  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Candidates with in vitro or slice electrophysiology, and /or In vivo EEG recordings.
  • Candidates with strong tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, Imaging background.
  • Candidates with AAV background and gene therapy (industry/academic) will be given preference.
  • Non-clinical report generation for ongoing studies and results.
